PMI NC Piedmont Triad's commitment to our Youth

Our focus on Youth and Social Impact is focused on youth and nonprofit outreach activities to create awareness about the usefulness of project management amongst those ages 5-35.  We serve these groups via mentoring, building engaging relationships, and networking within the chapter's reach.

Outreach activities include, but are not limited to, partnering directly with:

  • Youth (ages 5 to 35) in or outside school/academic/entrepreneurial/professional environments
  • Youth-serving nonprofits
  • Universities within our community to mentor and develop project management professionals
  • Other organizations that encompass and fulfill the PMI youth and social impact strategy

What is our focus on Youth and Social Impact?

Our primary focus is driven by the 17 United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.

Enabling youth and young professionals with the tools around project management helps in many ways.  We focus on engaging individuals through project management as a life skill.  As such, we are dedicated to enabling changemakers around the world to elevate their impact on society.

To make this work, we use three primary approaches:

  1. Youth: Sustain our emphasis on young people, helping them grow into adults who fulfill their goals and are prepared to shape their world.
  2. Nonprofits: Increase our ability to influence and reach youth and young professionals who engage them in experience-based activities, mentoring, and learning opportunities via nonprofits.
  3. Volunteers: Help others to deliver the learning and benefits of project management.

Why connect social good with youth?

PMI NC Triad's Youth and Social Impact initiatives encompass all outreach/partnerships with local youth-serving organizations and social good in the community.

  • For those in K-12 (ages 5-18), these skills equip them with thinking and learning that ensures college, career, and community readiness. Youth are changemakers and social good is an action that provides benefits to the public. Social good is about getting people to engage in local and global pro-social acts that benefit society and bring people together to change the world through engagement, shareability, and project management. Connecting youth to project management as a skill provides an opportunity for learning skills to apply to their lives, local communities, and professional paths.
  • For young professionals (ages 19-35), we focus on providing mentoring, learning, events, and other activities that allow them to grow their knowledge and ultimately, their careers, communities, and beyond. Young people are global leaders, setting trends and leading change unapologetically. Our goal is to partner with local, national, and global organizations that support and prepare these changemakers for success by offering project management expertise, resources, and mentors to aid them in their purpose.
