Political Strategies for Project Success: Swimming with Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive
Vijay Verma
Most project managers have enormous responsibility but limited direct authority. Successful project managers must understand the dynamics of power and politics and the importance of managing stakeholders through leadership and influence. They must analyze the political landscape in their organizations to identify three political positions (naïve, sharks, and politically sensible).
In this session, you will understand the important keywords for positive and negative politics, identify three political positions, and increase your leadership effectiveness. You will learn how to stop being naïve, protect yourself from “sharks,” learn to be politically sensible, and convert your adversaries and opponents into allies. You will learn many practical tips to become politically sensible and create a climate of more collaboration, teamwork, synergy, commitment, and motivation for getting things done and leading people to their peak performance by using the art of positive politics and minimizing the negative impact of politics.
One of the important leadership traits is accountability. Accountability is a two-way obligation. While you are holding yourself accountable to the results, you are driving accountability behavior in the team. In this presentation, I will discuss how to lead with accountability and what to expect when you first introduce accountability to the team.
Collective Intelligence: Enabler for High-Performing teams
Christine Aykac
Aykac Consulting Inc
Collective intelligence is based on the premise that intelligence is distributed. Different people hold different pieces of information and contribute different skills. By bringing together diverse groups of people, data, and technology, we can create a collective intelligence that is greater than the individual parts in isolation. And by doing this, we can achieve things far beyond what any individual human or machine could achieve alone.
In this session, Christine Aykac will discuss the key elements of team transformation, what collective intelligence means for project teams and organizations and how to bring all team members to a “collective wisdom” state.
Successful project management is most often directly related to managing and leading people – yet we spend so little time learning how to do this properly. As the manager of a new project, you set the tone for your leadership style and approach right off the start. As the project progresses, your approach to leading your ‘people’ become critical to the success of the project. This session will highlight 5 ways we can be great leaders within our projects.
